Joined Royal Marines 29 May 1889. Joined up as a Private, he was 5’6”,his complection fresh hair brown & eyes grey. He has a scare over his right eye on his right forearm & 2 scares on left side of stomach.
9 Sept. 1896 invalided out of Royal Marines at Gosporth. He was sighned off with “Very Good ‘ character. The Certificate states he was entitled to one Good Conduct Badge. Duration of service 4 years 228 days. he has no engagements and incurred no wounds. his intended residence was 6 Gibralter Walk , Bethnal Green.

Agreement between John Thomas and his Employer Victor Niox of 58 Millbank stated that he was obliged to account for all transactions & to be available at all times save Bank Holidays. He was paid a salary of £12 per month and commission of 5% of the nett profit of the business. The commission was to be paid once a year on 31 January 1900. This Agreement was for 4 years from 1 July 1899 to 1903
